Youth orchestra to wow Miramichi at banquet
New Brunswick Youth orchestra showcasing ‘A Legacy of Excellence’ at Nov. 2 fundraising banquet in Miramichi

Oct. 28, 2024. MIRAMICHI:  The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra continues to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Canada’s largest youth music program with a fundraising banquet planned for Nov. 2 in Miramichi at the Rodd Miramichi River Resort. GALA Dinner guests will be welcomed from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The evening program begins at 6:30 p.m. sharp.

Kenn Mainville, NBYO CEO, said the orchestra has planned a series of fundraising banquets, concerts and possibly an Eastern Canadian tour to celebrate "Orchestrating a Legacy of Excellence", 60 years of growth to become a vital part of New Brunswick’s cultural fabric.

“The Miramichi banquet will include a gourmet meal, live performances, and opportunities for attendees to directly engage with our students and teaching artists,” Mainville said. “This event is a wonderful opportunity for businesses, community leaders, and individual supporters to play a pivotal role in the future of youth orchestral music in New Brunswick.”

Don Matheson, Director of Community Engagemnent for the orchestra,  said the Nov. 2 event will feature Host Entertainer Marshall Button, who many patrons will fondly recognize as Lucien.

“Marshall is a devoted partner and supporter of the NBYO; and he collaborates annually with our Music Director & Conductor Tony Delgado on musical theatre productions. Marshall co-produced our recent WILD SYMPHONY triumph, narrated in person by best-selling author Dan Brown,” Matheson said. “Patrons attending the banquet will enjoy an entertaining evening.”

Button said it’s an honour to be invited to participate.

“The NBYO and their outreach programs such as Sistema NB and ancillary youth orchestras are one of our province’s greatest treasures.  Musicians come from every corner of our province.  We need to celebrate, but especially support this jewel,” Button said.

Matheson said the orchestra plan to salute and thank a community champion of NBYO & Sistema NB programming at the Miramichi GALA Dinner. These kindred spirits help both ther internationally acclaimed New Brunswick Youth Orchestra and Sistema NB programs thrive.

Tony Delgado said the banquet will showcase a NBYO Chamber Orchestra  of 35 musicians to play a few musical pieces.

“There will be background music and a few other surprises. We will be playing a collection of classical, popular and Acadian music that we promise the audience will enjoy!” Delgado said.

Matheson said the Miramichi region has been strong NBYO supporters for decades.

“We have attracted packed houses in Miramichi to the James M. Hill Memorial High School Auditorium, and Carrefour Beausoleil. We operate five Sistema NB Centres in Northeastern NB…including the Chaleur Region, Tracadie, Richibucto, Elsipogtog First Nation, and MIramichi. We encourage all area Sistema NB families to attend NBYO concerts, to inspire them to strive for excellence, and to hear orchestral masterpieces performed at the highest level,” he said.

“Our active Miramichi Sistema NB Centre (Directed by Carlos Armao) now also operates the Miramichi Youth String Orchestra—MYSO. Several MYSO members have become NBYO regulars in recent years. So many of our largest-ever NBYO (115-member) roster will be performing in for home-town Miramichi crowds in November,” Matheson said.

Banquet tickets can be purchased online, with all proceeds going toward the NBYO 60th anniversary tour and the Sistema NB program.
