Described as a “self-assured voice” (Barczablog)with a “masterful control over his idiom”
(ClassicalMusic Sentinel), KevinLau is quickly establishinghimself as one ofCanada’s
forefront emerging composers.Hismusic has been commissioned andperformedbyover
twenty ensembles including theTorontoSymphonyOrchestra,HamiltonPhilharmonic
Orchestra,Mississauga SymphonyOrchestra,HannafordStreet SilverBand, andAfiara
Quartet.Most recently, hewas commissionedby theNational Ballet ofCanada to create
a full-lengthballet score basedonAntoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novel LePetit Prince (with
original choreographybyGuillaumeCoté.)Hismusic is commercially available onNaxos
CanadianClassics (featuring theMercer-ParkDuo) andCambriaRecords (featuring
violinistConradChow.)
Kevin is also active as a film composer, conductor, pianist, and arranger. In 2007, Kevin
co-founded the SneakPeekOrchestra (with conductorVictorCheng), wherehe remained
artistic director till 2014. Since receivinghis doctoratemusic composition from the
UniversityofTorontounder the supervisionofChristosHatzis, hehas served as composer-
in-residence for theMississauga SymphonyOrchestra (2010-12) and theBanffCentre
(2012).He is currently theTorontoSymphonyOrchestra’sAffiliateComposer (2012-15).
