Retired librarian Robert Daigle will receive the 2016 Lieutenant Governor’s NBYO Award on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Sistema NB Edmundston season finale concert. The concert will be staged at the Saint Jacques Church at 7:00 PM and conducted by Centre Director Monica Dubé.

The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra created the NBYO distinction awards in 2006 on the occasion of its 40th anniversary as an annual awards program to recognize exemplary leadership and contribution to the development of the orchestra, the musical development of youth and/or the orchestral community in New Brunswick.

The Award is presented each year to deserving musicians, instructors, members, patrons or volunteers from across the province and beyond, following nominations and upon approval of the NBYO board of directors.

Some of the accomplishments, which make Robert Daigle such an outstanding Lieutenant Governor’s NBYO Award recipient, include:

  • Long term commitment to his passion for youth orchestral music and social change, which evolved between 1988 and 1991 when he served as vice-president of Les P'tits violons de Mgr. Lionel Daigle Inc.—the local strings academy
  • Leadership of the local committee for more than 15 years, promoting NBYO and being a key contributor to the success of every NBYO rehearsal-concert weekend in Edmundston
  • Serving as chairperson of the local NBYO volunteer committee for many years
  • Promotion of NBYO and encouragement to local youth musicians to audition for the provincial orchestra
  • Sharing his experience and expertise with other area parents and youth, having enjoyed the opportunities during several seasons when his daughter was a musician member of NBYO
  • Active membership in the group of inspired local community leaders, who worked hard to establish the Sistema NB Edmundston program in 2015
  • Active development of community service partners and financial support for NBYO and Sistema NB
  • Inspiring Club Richelieu to become a contributing stakeholder in the Sistema NB Edmundston program

The Honourable Jocelyne Roy-Vienneau, Lt-Gov of New Brunswick, will be on hand for the Sistema NB season finale concert on Tuesday, June 21st and to present the award to Robert Daigle.

“I am proud to make this presentation to Mr. Robert Daigle, for his lifetime of dedication to music and young people,” said Lt-Gov Roy Vienneau.  “I am inspired by his passion and commitment.”

Sistema NB is the free after-school orchestral outreach program of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra. The program currently operates six centres, serving over 700 New Brunswick school children in Moncton, Saint John, Richibucto, Tobique First Nation, Edmundston, and Miramichi. The Government of New Brunswick, multiple charitable foundations, community service organizations, corporate and individual donors generously support the work and mission of Sistema NB.

Monica Dubé became the Centre Director at Sistema NB Edmundston in the summer of 2015, after teaching violin at the Sistema NB Tobique Centre through the 2014-15 school year. She proudly presents her first Sistema NB season finale concert in Edmundston, showcasing the amazing progress of her twenty grade one and two Sistema NB students from three area schools—École Notre-Dame, the Carrefour de la Jeunesse, and Saint Mary’s Academy.

Hearts will be warmed by their musical performance on Tuesday, June 21st in the Saint Jacques Church at 7:00 pm. Admission is free of charge, so community friends and families are welcome to attend. Donations in support of Sistema NB Edmundston will be gratefully accepted.
