FESNOJIV

Sistema New Brunswick takes it name from the orchestra movement established in Venezuela in 1975 by Maestro José Antonio Abreu. We seek to benefit from the South Americans’ expertise and experience, while adapting their methods to fit and work in New Brunswick and Canada.

The State Foundation for the National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras of Venezuela (FESNOJIV) is a Venezuelan social program founded by Maestro Jose Antonio Abreu. FESNOJIV believes the symphony orchestra and the choir are instruments of social organization and community development.

The work, commonly know as El Sistema, was founded in 1975. Thirty-four years on FESNOJIV has a network of 180 nucleus (orchestra centres) serving more than 350,000 children in Venezuela. The program has also produced the world-renowned and acclaimed Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra.

Following a learning tour to Caracas, FESNOJIV has agreed to assist and partner with NBYO to establish and develop a similar program in New Brunswick and Canada. This partnership could involve:

  • Mentoring, counsel and advice
  • Exchanges of research, literature and intellectual property
  • Teacher exchange opportunities
  • Technology exchanges and collaboration
  • Musician exchanges
  • International musical and cultural exchanges
