A feast for all the senses will bring together locals artists of music and food for the first time this Saturday night.

The first-ever Concert Gastronomique, featuring music by the Tutta Musica Orchestra and French cuisine by chef Michel Savoie, will be held at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre, in the Bernard-Le-Blanc Theatre on the third floor, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Though chamber music is great on its own, musician Nicolas Tremblay said he and the orchestra of about 40 Sistema New Brunswick instructors were looking to bring an interactive showcase to life.

“This is not your traditional sit-down dinner then listen to music kind of evening,” he said this week during a short rehearsal at the Aberdeen.“It’s creative and interactive and convivial.”

Tremblay and the rest of the artist-teachers have backgrounds and diplomas from some of the most renowned music conservatories and universities in North and South America. It’s no wonder their innovative minds would dream up a new platform to bring orchestral music to the modern audience in southeastern New Brunswick.

After forming a partnership with Savoie, a former chef at the Tide & Boar Gastropub and now head chef at the Aberdeen’s Brumes de Coude, and the directors of the centre, Tremblay said that how to present the two art forms came naturally.

The evening will begin with Savoie laying out his ingredients and preparing the food on site. Guests are invited to try the fresh gourmet plates around 7 p.m.Then the music portion of the event takes over, around 7:30 p.m.

The orchestra, which, at its full complement for this first concert, boasts 10 instrumentalists, will perform works by Haydn, Ravel, Mozart and Saint-Saens.

For $40, which includes beverage pairings, Tremblay said it’s a great opportunity for people to get a sampling of this unique pairing of art, as well as the talented professionals the Moncton area has in its midst.

Should the evening meet success, the event will become Concerts Gastronomiques – a series – with maybe a half dozen or more showcases in store for next year.

“We’d like to pair more creative arts together, with perhaps art presentations, expositions, previous to concert portion,” Tremblay said.“Have themed evenings, like tango or South American music and food, jazz ... it really knows no bounds.”

There are limited spots available for the evening. Tickets can be purchased by calling the centre at 857-9597 or by emailing campagneaberdeen@gmail.com.
