July 14, 2022, Moncton, NB:  It’s off to Los Angeles for Jude Melanson, a top-tier young musician and only Canadian, to participate in Encuentros LA 2022 Global Music Education Program. This program is presented by the Dudamel Foundation and Los Angeles Philharmonic and will be the first Encuentros (Encounters) in the United States.

Jude Melanson credits his success to Sistema NB where he began in 2012 learning and performing Double Bass. He’s currently enrolled in Western University in the Bachelor of Music Performance program and is thrilled to be going to Encuentros (Encounters) LA 2022 in Los Angeles. “I’m most excited to work with other bass players with different techniques and styles and share my experience and style. I’ve been practicing super hard to impress Dudamel and make music with people across the world, and learn about how they got to where they are.” said Jude Melanson. “I feel a little pressure being the only Canadian going, and I know this will challenge my self-confidence and help me grow.”

“This is a unique opportunity for Jude, he will perform with Gustavo Dudamel, an award-winning globally-recognized conductor and will be exposed to some of the best musicians from Sistema programs around the world. The cultural experience and opportunity to play at the Hollywood Bowl is huge.” said Tony (Antonio) Delgado, Musical Director and Conductor of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra and of NBYO’s Sistema New Brunswick. “Jude Melanson is a very responsible young leader, always prepared and living the Sistema NB goals. This is an honour and well-deserved.”

Encuentros is a global music education program which explores cultural unity and celebrates harmony, equity, dignity, beauty and respect through music with the goal of inspiring and teaching a new generation of young leaders to work toward building a better world.

Jude Melanson is one of over 100 top-tier young musicians, and the only Canadian, from an El Sistema-inspired program from 22 countries around the world who will experience this opportunity.

“To participate in workshops and rehearsals conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and guest artists from around the globe will be an incredible experience for Jude.” said Ken MacLeod, President and CEO and Founder of Sistema NB. “We strive to inspire children and youth to achieve their full potential through learning and performing orchestral music and Jude is a living up to our mission. The Encuentros LA 2022 Global Music Education Program will provide Jude with the opportunity to expand his leadership skills which will add to his future success. Sistema NB is proud of him,” continued MacLeod.

Sistema NB operates 9 centers, in Moncton, Saint John, Richibucto, Edmundston, Miramichi, Hillsborough, Tracadie, the Elsipogtog First Nation, and Fredericton and engages more than 1100 children daily.
